Four of New Zealand's leading Wahine Waiata (Female Song Birds) are touring the North Island this July to honour and celebrate Matariki.
Poly-fonk queen Betty-Anne and the first lady of waiata Maori, Whirimako Black, blend their joint expertise with the ethereal sounds of Maisey Rika and the dynamic fusion of Ria Hall. Accompanied & backed by the ARDIJAH Players, lead by musical director, Percussionist & Drummer, Ryan Monga, with Kaitapu Monga on Bass Guitar & Synth, Rico Tali on Acoustic Guitar & Sax & Karl Benton on Keyboards.
The unique showcase of female talent will kick-off in Kaitaia on July 4 and travel around the North Island, ending with the last Aotearoa (NZ) date in Hastings on July 21.
Celebrating the Maori New Year, the self-produced tour has been 12 months in the making.
Paying tribute to their fans, and their musical inspirations, HONOUR will be an intimate performance of timeless classics, modern melodies, and concert-only collaborations.
” The connection the four of us have is a love of people, " says Betty-Anne. "Music is our vehicle to share that love. Matariki is a time of new beginnings and of remembrance. We are taking the time to share in those things with our audiences.
"Honor is about paying respect to everything in our lives. From the earth and air around us to our musical careers and the audiences that have put us there. As a collective, our audiences have given so much to us, this is a time to give back to them.”
To do that, honor – Matariki Celebration Tour, is going to the people.
Shows take place in Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton cities, as well as the smaller regions and towns of Whangarei, Kaitaia, Kaikohe, Dargaville, Rotorua, Whakatane, Wanganui and Hastings.
To complete the tour, the show will then cross the ditch to Australia with performances planned in
Sydney, Perth and the Gold Coast.
"Music empowers and uplifts, our audiences should expect to be wowed at this show,” says Betty - Anne. "We will combine our musical journeys and celebrate our signature songs while paying tribute to musicians, songwriters and artists who left us with their musical legacy.”
With a mixture of general admission and VIP seating the show caters to all. VIP tickets include a chef-prepared platter of kaimoana (seafood) and kaiwhenua (organic foods) as well as complimentary NZ Wine.
To showcase local talent, each concert will also include special guest artists from each region.
